Ipswich Town secured their return to the Premier League after 22 years away with a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on the final day of the Championship season.
Kieran McKenna’s side needed just to better Leeds United’s score as Daniel Farke’s third-placed team faced Southampton, but the Yorkshire outfit slipped to a 2-1 defeat to seal their play-off fate.
The Tractor Boys, however, confirmed automatic promotion with goals from Wes Burns and Omari Hutchinson, their two wide men, as the result also consigned Andre Breitenreiter’s Terriers to relegation to League One.
At Elland Road, Adam Armstrong and Will Smallbone’s goals were enough to overcome Joel Piroe’s equaliser, but deep down, Leeds knew that automatic promotion would be a tough ask.
McKenna has led Ipswich to back-to-back promotions after winning League One last year in his first full season in charge, and the east Anglian club have been praised throughout the campaign for their adventurous and innovative brand of football.
