Two Benue teenagers rescued after using their school fees to travel to Abuja

Two teenage girls from Benue State, have been rescued after they were found wandering along the road in Abuja.

A Benue youth leader, Rt. Comr. Cletus Adole Aruta, President General, Omi Ny’Igede Youth Wing Development Association (ONYWDA) Worldwide, disclosed this in a Facebook post on Monday, January 26, 2026.

According to him, the minors identified as Elizabeth Ebonyi and Hannah Okpe, from Itogo Ipinu, Obi LGA, used the school fees given to them by their parents, to travel to Abuja.

Upon arriving in Abuja on January 13, 2026, they were handed over to a woman for domestic work.

However, they left the woman’s house on January 24, 2026, due to alleged maltreatment.

They were later found wandering at Abacha Road, Mararaba, and handed over to the police.

“The above were two Igede children Elizabeth Ebonyi and Hannah Okpe Iboni from Itogo Ipinu, Obi LGA, Benue State who left the village for Abuja using their school fees given to them by their parents as transport according to them,” he wrote.

“They got to Abuja on Tuesday 13th January 2026, and were handed over to one woman for house help work and left the woman’s house yesterday Saturday 24th January 2026 due to heavy maltreatment in their Madam’s house so someone saw them wandering at Abacha Road Mararaba and handed them over to the police, thank God the man who found them is a friend to our brother Comrade Agbo Omenka who referred him to me as Igede Youth Leader so i called our Abuja Branch of Omi Ny’Igede Youth Wing who went and rescued them.

“Although, upon all the interviews and questioning, we discovered that these ones left Igede to Abuja on their own without their parent’s knowledge and were not trafficked like many others so i have directed that they should be handed over to the Itogo Association Chairman in Abuja to be sent back home to further their studies or to learn handwork because these ones are not ready for schools by my own understanding of the whole thing!

“I want to appreciate our Abuja Branch President Comrade Godwin Onuwa for leaving his house by 11PM at night and being outside till 2AM this morning before he took the children to his own house and accommodated them till this evening before he handed them over to the representative of the Itogo Progressive Association Mr. Elijah Onah Ojeka in Abuja! May God, in His infinite mercy, bless you, IJN!

“Our Taskforce Committee on Child Trafficking, Drugs and Substance Abuse Comrade Ogbu Lion Ogbu John and his team will be receiving them at home on our behalf on the day they will be sent home and hand them over to their parents with stringent conditions!

Let’s join hands together to fight the evil menace of Child Trafficking, Drugs, and Substance Abuse in Igede land for a better and healthier society for our children.”
