The Digital Media aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has debunked widespread media reports suggesting that the retired general is critically ill and has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
In a statement released on Thursday, Ahmad, who served as Buhari’s Special Assistant on Digital Media during his tenure, acknowledged that the former president is indeed unwell but emphasized that his condition is stable and not life-threatening.
“In light of recent media reports suggesting that former President Muhammadu Buhari is critically ill and has been admitted to the ICU, we find it necessary to set the record straight,” the statement read in part.
Ahmad clarified that while Buhari is currently receiving medical attention, the sensational claims circulating in the media were exaggerated.
“It is true that former President Buhari is unwell and is currently receiving medical attention. However, contrary to the exaggerated claims, he is stable, responding well to treatment, and we remain optimistic about his full recovery,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to Nigerians and supporters of the former president for their overwhelming show of concern and goodwill.
“We appreciate the outpouring of prayers and goodwill from his supporters and well-wishers around the world. We continue to pray for his complete and speedy recovery. Thank you,” the statement concluded.
The clarification comes amidst growing speculation on social media and some online platforms regarding Buhari’s health, sparking public concern over the wellbeing of Nigeria’s former leader.
