Ekiti Man shoots son dead after mistaking him for a monkey

The Ekiti State police commissioner, Joseph Eribo, has confirmed the killing of a 15-year-old boy by his father.

According to Eribo, the sad incident happened at Iye Ekiti, in Ilejemeje Local Government Area of the state.

Speaking at a book launch, Eribo said the father, whose name was not disclosed, had taken his son to their family farmland for routine farm work.

The commissioner said the farmer had been experiencing frequent monkey invasions on his farm and had carried a firearm to ward off the animals.

While on the farm, he reportedly noticed movement in a nearby tree and fired a shot, assuming it was a monkey, but it turned out to be his son, who was on the tree and was hit by the bullet.

Eribo said the boy was confirmed dead after the shooting.

The police boss mentioned that the father of the deceased was arrested and has been in custody while investigation continues.
