President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has waded into the ongoing enforcement action leading to the seizure of over 4,794 revoked properties by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).
The FCTA had Monday sealed off the premises of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat, Access Bank, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), Ibro Hotel and Total Energy among others in Abuja.
The action was part of an aggressive enforcement action to repossess over 4,700 properties revoked due to long-standing non-payment of ground rent.
The enforcement, which began at the Wuse District, was led by the Director of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, and officials from the Department of Land Administration.
The exercise followed a public notice by the FCTA which vowed to reclaim all titles revoked over non-compliance with statutory obligations.
However, President Tinubu halted the FCTA and directed that holders of the affected properties be given 14-day relief to settle the outstanding ground rents with associated penalties.
Director of Land Chijioke Nwankwoeze announced this Monday at a media parley in Abuja.
“Today, May 26, 2025, we commenced enforcement on the 4,794 properties revoked for non-payment of Ground Rent, from 10 to 43 years. Properties owned by government institutions, corporate organisations and individuals were affected. This demonstrates the Federal Capital Territory Administration’s commitment to carrying out its functions without fear or favour.
“The President, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has intervened. Therefore, by Mr. President’s intervention, holders of the affected properties now have 14 days (two weeks) to settle the outstanding Ground Rents, with associated penalties” he said.
