A brief but tense incident disrupted an otherwise high-profile wedding at the Katsina State Government House over the weekend, as royal guards of the Emir of Katsina forcefully broke a glass door after being momentarily denied entry.
The event, hosted by Governor Dikko Radda, drew prominent attendees including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, whose security protocol was at the centre of the disruption.
Daily Trust reported that the commotion began when access to the main event hall was temporarily restricted due to presidential security arrangements. This happened to coincide with the arrival of the Emir of Katsina, Dr Abdulmumini Kabir Usman. A viral video circulating on social media, originally obtained by Daily Trust, shows the Emir’s guards, dressed in traditional regalia, forcing open the door after a short delay, resulting in a glass panel shattering on impact.
Guests were visibly startled as the glass broke and fell, but the situation was quickly brought under control by security personnel and palace aides. The Emir was later escorted into the venue without further disruption.
Though the ceremony proceeded without any more incidents, the moment has sparked conversation about the delicate balance between traditional authority and modern political protocol. The image of a broken door has since become symbolic of the underlying tensions that can arise when the spheres of presidential authority, gubernatorial hosting, and royal prestige intersect. The wedding resumed smoothly, with blessings offered by President Tinubu, Governor Radda, and other dignitaries in attendance.
