Human rights activist, Harrison Gwamnishu, has reopened the case of the mother of five whose husband has allegedly been subjecting to acts of domestic violence for eleven years.
The woman’s sister, Cynthia Obi, had taken to social media a few days ago to cry for help for her sister who has allegedly suffered constant assault from her husband. Moved by her plea, Harrison who runs an NGO, Behind Bars Initiative, got his team members to locate the victim in Aba, Abia state and got the husband arrested. Harrison later withdrew his team from the case after the woman asked that her husband be released and not detained.
However, in an update given this morning, Harrison said he has reopened the case. According to him, the woman said the DPO forced her to demand that her husband be freed.
Harrison wrote;
‘’CASE RE-OPEN
We are back on her case again for the second time as she told us she was scared yesterday and she acted the way she did because the DPO of the station forced her.
I have also pleaded to our team led by Ochiegbu Marvelous Marvelous to go back and transfer the case to SCID for unbiased investigation.
Please let’s forgive her and render any possible assistance as she’s traumatized”
In a new video he shared, the victim said her husband is wicked and that he beat her all through her pregnancies. She said while pregnant with their first daughter, he allegedly battered her until she went into labour. She said the baby survived because she had reached full term.
Speaking further, she said she suffered over her children and doesn’t want to lose them. She added that the kids are scared of their father.
Harrison further stated that the matter has now been charged to court.
